How to Wash your Goalkeeper Gloves
– and ensure durability – Goalkeeper Glove Washing - Part 1 + Part 2.
Sonny has blogged a bit about goalkeeper glove washing – how to wash your goalkeeper gloves without shortening their lifespan
You've been looking forward to this. Your new goalkeeper gloves will prove their worth tonight in an important team match. Everything is going great, and you're completely satisfied with the gloves, which are now visibly used (actually filthy dirty, but you'll gladly take a dive in the mud for the team).
Extends Gloves' Lifespan
You've surely heard that keeping your goalkeeper gloves clean extends their lifespan.
But there's just one thing you want to be sure about: How do you perform the best goalkeeper glove wash to ensure they last as long as possible?
Do's when Washing Goalkeeper Gloves:
- Take your goalkeeper gloves into the shower! After a match or training, when you hop in the shower yourself, remember to bring your gloves along.
- It's important not to use soap or any other types of detergents. The only thing your gloves need is lukewarm water.
- Wash one glove at a time. Wet the goalkeeper glove thoroughly and gently rub the latex until it's clean.
- Proceed with caution: Don't scrub or press hard, but clean with soft, light pressure.
- When the glove is clean, take it off and wring it gently. With very light pressure on the glove, squeeze out the remaining water.
- Then start over with glove number 2.
- Drying: When you're done washing both goalkeeper gloves, hang them up by the strap and let them hang overnight.
- The next morning you'll wake up to newly washed, dry goalkeeper gloves: Voilá!
Don'ts when Washing Goalkeeper Gloves:
- Never use soap or any other types of detergents when washing your goalkeeper gloves.
- Never press hard or scrape the latex when washing the gloves.
- Never wring the goalkeeper glove hard.
- Never dry the gloves on or over a radiator after washing.
